The Art of Joe Vollan

Recently stumbled upon the work of Joe Vollan, I love the balance between cute and creepy, his pieces are so imaginative and kind of neo-noirish, they make my mind wander to an entertaining, dark, post-apocalyptic, mechanized world.

"A mild mannered and modest person himself, Joe Vollan speaks loudly and passionately through his art.

Using refined artistic skills, he develops eccentric pop surrealist images which reveal his own insights into inspiration and harrowing tales. The heart of his work evokes emotion through senses of wonderment as it pertains to the fantastic and bizarre world he creates. Joe has become highly respected and recognized around Seattle for his distinctly mysterious works of art.

Having shown in all of the top galleries in the area from Roq La Rue, Flatcolor Gallery, BLVD, Schmancy, Ouch My Eye and more, he has now begun showing down the west coast as far as Alpha Cult in Los Angeles."

Take a look at these intriguing works, for more check out the website  http://www.joevollan.com/

Return of the Hidden Mother

Two years ago I did a post about the mystery of the Hidden Mother. Needless to say my obsession has continued and grown; imagine my excitement when browsing last week in a thrift store, I came across a large framed portrait dated back to the turn of the century, featuring a serious-looking, victorian baby on a strange cloth covered chair....

My very own amazing example of these elusive and mysterious portraits that continue to amaze and fascinate me. What a find!!

Moon Worship

"...the moon that hung over the garden like some great priceless pearl, flawed and blemished with grey shadowy ridges as only a very great beauty can risk
being." - Anita Desai

Through the Fog: The Enchanted Forest

Through the Fog

"I've never been to an abandoned amusement park... I must say it was fun climbing around on these fairy tale re-creations; I felt like I was 8 years old again!

The air was thick and sweat rolled off your skin even if you weren't hot. The mist looked really nice in person but made photographing outside very difficult; the foreground seemed too dark and the sky was always blown out, but I did the best I could.

A large shopping center was right next to the property... the smell of food from a bar and grill tempted us to hurry, and so did the fading light. There used to be a carousel that I wanted to see, but it has since been moved to another location for restoration. It was an interesting place, but only one visit necessary."
